Police commissioner engages community stakeholders

Provincial commissioner lt genl Thembi Hadebe met with the Central Business District Business Association (CBDBA) to foster relations between the association and the police.

POLOKWANE – According to spokesperson of the association Ali Salman the purpose of this engagement was to build a relationship with the police and the association.

From the side of the association they also took the time to wish the commissioner, who recently took up the position as Limpopo’s top cop, a warm welcome and to offer their cooperation in the fight against crime.

“We also took the time to thank her for supporting us in fighting crime because in order to maintain the safety of all people we need to work together.

“The previous police commissioner Nneke Ledwaba always reiterated the need for police to make use of community stakeholders who are very often the eyes and the ears of the police and we are very happy that Hadebe is moving from where Ledwaba left off.”

Salman says some of the issues they touched on included the prevalence of drugs that are killing the community and leading the youth on the wrong path.

“We also touched on the group of men that are terrorising the community by robbing and assaulting people in the CBD. We noticed that most of the people who fall victim to these guys are pensioners and elderly people.”

He says Hadebe had promised that she will be giving them her full support and is in favour of the organisation as they have managed to decrease crime in the city with the help of over 33 taxi associations.

Salman has appreciated the support from the commissioner saying she has assisted in the allocation of an office at the Polokwane Police Station where they will be working from.

“We are going to tackle all crimes, from petty crimes all the way to the major crimes. All this while flying the association’s flag high and reiterating the call for a clean and safe Polokwane.”
