Limpopo man slapped with life sentence for raping 14-year-old niece

The man threatened her with her knife before he raped her, says the police.

LIMPOPO -The provincial police commissioner, Lt Genl Thembi Hadebe, has welcomed the life sentenced meted out by the courts to a 32-year-old rapist.

According to police spokesperson Brig Motlafela Mojapelo the man was accused of raping his 14-year-old niece on May 14, 2020. “On the day, the victim was accosted by her uncle as she was about to leave for school. “He threatened her with a knife and then took her to the toilet where he raped her.”

“After he left the house, the victim went to the workplace of another uncle and reported the incident,” Mojapelo said.

A case of rape was opened and assigned to the investigating officer, Sgt Billy Mohale, who is attached to the Family Violence Child Protection and Sexual Offences unit in Mokopane.

“The case was investigated and the suspect was located and arrested. He was positively linked to the case and convicted for rape by the Mahwelereng Regional Court.”

He was sentenced to life imprisonment by the same court on Monday, 12 July.

Hadebe praised the investigating officer for working tirelessly on the case to ensure that the accused was sent to jail.

The man cannot be named to protect the identity of the victim.
