Limpopo: Two killed, one injured in multi-vehicle crash in Waterberg

Reckless driving has been cited as the leading cause, says the media liaison officer for the Department of Transport, Mike Maringa.

LIMPOPO – Two people are dead and another seriously injured after a multi-vehicle along the R510 road on Sunday evening.

The incident involved a sedan, truck and bakkie and according to the media liaison officer for the Department of Transport, Mike Maringa, two people were certified dead on the scene.

“It is alleged a sedan and a truck, traveling in opposite directions, collided head-on at 18.50. A bakkie then drove into the rear of the truck,” he said.

Maringa explained that the driver of truck and a passenger from the sedan were certified dead on the scene, while the driver of the bakkie sustained serous injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital for medical treatment.

“The driver of the sedan escaped with minor injuries,” he added.

Reckless driving has been cited as the possible cause of the incident, Mike said.

Meanwhile on Sunday morning, three people were killed and one injured after two sedan collided head-on along the R71 outside Phalaborwa in the Mopani district.

“The accident happened at around 02.30 and it is alleged that the driver of one of the sedans lost control and collided with the other oncoming sedan,” Maringa explained.

The drivers of both vehicles and a passenger were certified dead on the scene.
