Woman dies of ‘shock’ after 3-vehicles collide outside Polokwane

A woman apparently died due to "shock" after 3-vehicles collided along the R71 road on Monday evening.

LIMPOPO – According to a press release, ER24 paramedics responded to the scene of the collision on Monday evening (June 28). The collision occurred on the R71 near Mothibaskraal, 20km outside of Polokwane and ER24’s Ineke van Huyssteen said one person died while eleven others were injured.

Kgaugelo Mphago, the spokesperson for the Polokwane Traffic Department, confirmed to Review that three vehicles were involved in the collision. “A taxi drove into the rear of the second vehicle and pushed it into the rear of the third vehicle.”

“ER24 paramedics arrived at the scene shortly after 18:00 to find multiple people outside of the vehicles and a female passenger inside a taxi. The woman showed no signs of life and was declared dead at the scene, said Huyssteen.

Mphago explained that the woman was seated in the rear of the taxi and apparently passed away on the scene due to “shock”.

She added that eight people sustained minor injuries, while three others were found to have sustained moderate injuries. “ER24 along with the provincial EMS and other private emergency services treated the patients on the scene before transporting them to various hospitals for further medical care,” she added.

Police were on the scene for investigations.

“The exact circumstances surrounding the incident is not known as yet and will form part of a police investigation,” Huyssteen concluded.
