Club rugby in Limpopo stopped with immediate effect

The decision was taken by the executive management of the Blue Bulls Rugby Union earlier this morning.

POLOKWANE – For the forseeable future, no club rugby games will be played in Limpopo.

The decision was taken by the executive management of the Blue Bulls Rugby Union earlier this morning.

According to the Limpopo Blue Bulls’ amateur rugby manager, Attie Buitendag, the decision was made due to the impact of Covid-19 on the province.

“After consultation with the deputy president, this email serves as official confirmation that all club rugby (matches and practices) in the Limpopo region are temporarily suspended with immediate effect, due to the impact and spread of Covid-19 infections throughout the province,” an email by Buitendag reads.

He added that the “impact and circumstances of the pandemic” will dictate which decision will be taken at a later stage by the BBRU-Limpopo Competition Committee and Executive Committee.

“Adjustments to the league terms will also be made and will be communicated shortly. The decision is solely aimed at managing the safety and health of our players and the community as a priority,” he concluded.

Review spoke to the Blue Bulls’ president, Willem Strauss, who said: “We will monitor the situation, but of course the well-being and safety of our players, referees, coaches and administrators is our priority.”
