Bags of Hope gives girls, women hope

Keller Williams on Friday, 18 June donated sanitary pads to various local organisations through their Bags of Hope Bags of Hope initiative.

POLOKWANE –  Across Limpopo and around the country some girls and women miss school or important life events every month because of a natural phenomenon; their periods. And this why Keller Williams Bags of Hope felt the need to donate sanitary pads to some of their beneficiaries, SAVF, Vision of Hope and Sent2serve Ministries, to assist the girls and women from these organisations.

Bags of Hope is an initiative to collect items for those in need and it is the perfect opportunity to donate those second-hand goods, which are still in a good condition, and now they’re donating sanitary pads, in collaboration with Pick n Pay Limpopo Mall.

The handover took place on Friday, 18 June at Limpopo Mall, where they were welcomed by Mall Manager, Carien de Beer.

Drienie van Wyk from Vision of Hope said she was grateful for the much needed donation. “Thank you very much, this is something we don’t usually receive at the shelters, so we really appreciate it. We have about 23 women at the shelters that would make good use of these, so thank you very much,” Drienie said.

Senior social worker, Joyce Sadiki said the sanitary pads will benefit the community in a positive way. “Our main focus areas are Polokwane, Westenburg and Seshego. These are the areas where we will distribute the donation,” Joyce said.

Melville Botha from Sent2Serve Ministries said they just want to thank Keller Williams Bags of Hope and also Limpopo Mall management for the donations. “It’s not the kind of donations we usually receive, and these are going to be used at our centres in Seshego and Venda, where we have a lot of teenage girls, who miss school because they don’t have sanitary pads.”

“We will also donate some to villages in these areas,” Melville said.

De Beer made sure that all organisations who joined them on the day did not pay for parking as part of the donation. anne@nmgroup.co.za
