Polokwane vehicle dealership fraudster sentenced

POLOKWANE – The Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation’s spokesperson, Capt Matimba Maluleke, says they are content about the conviction and sentencing of a vehicle dealership fraudster.

Mokhurane Danny Moraba (23) appeared in the Polokwane Magistrate’s Court on Monday, June 7 where he was sentencced to seven (7) years’ imprisonment, of which three (3) years are suspended for five (5) years, on condition that he is not found guilty on similar offences during the suspension period.

“On 18 April 2019, Moraba visited a dealership in Polokwane, purporting to be a potential buyer. He then presented his particulars to the dealership in order to get financed on his aspired Toyota Avanza worth R446 220,” Maluleke said in a statement.

He said when the bank was processing Moraba’s application for vehicle finance, it was discovered that the applicant submitted fraudulent documents.

“Authorities were immediately notified and Moraba was arrested by the Hawks’ Serious Commercial Crime Investigation members when he came to collect the vehicle.

The accused was out on R500 bail until his conviction.
