Limpopo: Boy (7) attacked with crowbar in apparent domestic violence incident

His grandmother also sustained injuries as she was trying to protect him.

LIMPOPO – An apparent domestic violence incident in Namakgale’s Mandela village has sent shockwaves through the community.

According to the Department of Social Development’s spokesperson, Witness Tiva, the department has sent a team of social workers to the village to provide psychosocial support to the family of a seven-year-old boy who was allegedly killed by a man last night.

“The boy died in a suspected domestic violence incident. Police say Donald Mamolele (7) was with his grandmother when his uncle attacked him with a crowbar. The grandmother also sustained injuries as she was trying to protect her grandson,” Tiva explained.

MEC Nkakareng Rakgoale says the trend of people being killed in domestic violence incidents in the province, should to come to an end.

“These barbaric acts are stripping away the rights of children that we seek to protect as government. We as a society seriously need to do introspection on where we went wrong. It cannot be that every week we receive reports about these senseless killings,” Rakgoale added.

The incident follows shortly after a man raped and hacked a 13-year-old girl to death at Joppie village outside Tzaneen on Sunday, June 6.

“As it stands, the situation is worrying and we seem to not be winning the war against gender-based violence and femicide. We hope the police will arrest the suspect involved in the killing of the little boy, and make sure that he’s brought before the court of law for justice to prevail,” Rakgoale explained.

Meanwhile, Rakgoale is expected to highlight the increase in the number of GBVF incidents and attacks on children in the province, when she debates at Parliament’s National Council of Provinces’ sitting this afternoon.
