[LISTEN] Lucas Phasha sentenced to four life terms

The 52-year-old was convicted and sentenced for the murder of his four children, between the ages of three and nine

POLOKWANE – The MEC for Social Development, Nkakareng Rakgoale has welcomed the sentence handed down to former lawyer, Lucas Phasha (52).

Phasha was convicted for the murder of his four children, Katlego (9), Joyce, (7) Tshepo (5) and Adel (3) and was sentenced to four life imprisonment terms by the High Court, Limpopo division in Polokwane earlier today (Friday, 4 June).

The incident happened in February 2020 at Ga-Phasha village in the Sekhukhune District. On the day of the murder, Phasha admitted his crime to a neighbour and pointed out the location of their bodies. The police were notified and the bodies of all four children were located within a three kilometre radius of the village. Three of children where found with stab wounds. The youngest was found with open wounds.

Mashudu Malabi- Dzhangi, Regional Spokesperson of the Directorate of Public Prosecution (DPP) says Phasha used an axe to hacked to death three of his children, while the youngest child was bludgeoned to death.

Rakgoale was in court today to support the family of the victims. She welcomed the outcome of the case, saying that it will serve as a deterrent to would-be abusers and murderers of children.

“The court heard that Phasha has previous convictions of murder, three counts of attempted murder and reckless driving. People of Phasha’s character must be permanently removed from the society,”
