LIMPOPO – The police have offered a monetary reward of R50 000 to anyone who can provide information about the suspects who were involved in a cash-in-transit heist in Giyani.

The incident happened at shopping centre in the area on Sunday morning.

According to a  statement issued by Police Spokesperson, Brig Motlafela Mojapelo the G4S guard was attacked and fatally shot after he had collected the money from a local retail store in the area. “Four suspects who were travelling in a white double cab GMW bakkie arrived at the Mopani Super Spar. Two jumped off and allegedly accosted the guard as he was coming out of the shop. They shot him, took the money box and fled towards the parked motor vehicle.”

Mojapelo said the driver of the G4S security vehicle was still seated inside the vehicle and chased after the suspects until they dropped the money box which was stained with red and green ink.

“The suspects continued to flee along the R81 road, direction south when the driver of the vehicle lost control and they crashed into a  pole next to the entrance of a residential village Kremetaart. All the suspects jumped out of the bakkie and fled on foot.”
