[UPDATE] Four killed in multi-vehicle collision on R521

Seven others sustained serious injuries and were rushed to the hospital with serious injuries.

POLOKWANE – Four people are dead, while seven others were seriously injured in a multi-vehicle collision on the R521 earlier today.

The incident happened approximately 33km outside Polokwane near Ga-Semenya at 13:20 and involved a truck, sedan and a minibus taxi.

According to the Transport Department’s Media Liaison Officer, Mike Maringa it is alleged the driver of the truck lost control of the vehicle due to a burst tyre. “It is further alleged the truck collided into a minibus which crashed into a sedan.”

He addled that the sedan overturned.

“Four passengers from the taxi were certified dead on the scene, while seven other passengers were rushed to the hospital with serious injuries,” Maringa explained.

MEC Mavhungu Lerule-Ramakhanya conveyed her condolences to the families of the deceased and wished the injured people a speedy recovery.
 
She reiterated a call to motorists, to check the condition of their vehicles before they embark on their trips to avoid accidents normally caused by minor mechanical problems.

POLOKWANE – Four people have been confirmed dead, following an earlier incident on the R521, approximately 33km outside Polokwane.

According to the Transport Department’s Media Liaison Officer, Mike Maringa, the incident involved a taxi, a truck and a sedan.

“I am waiting for a final report to establish the exact number of fatalities and what transpired. The preliminary report suggests that the truck’s brakes failed and that the steering wheel locked,” he added.

Maringa said the road is currently closed for the forensic team to conduct their investigation.
