[UPDATE] Limpopo businessman kidnapped in Louis Trichardt, released

36-year-old Shama Premjee was kidnapped in Louis Trichardt on 9 April. 

LIMPOPO – The 36-year-old businessman from Louis Trichardt who was kidnapped in April has been released.

In a tweet Yusuf Abramjee confirmed that Shama Premjee was released and has been reunited with his family.

Premjee was kidnapped at gunpoint a short distance from his home at around 07:00 on 9 April. According to police reports Premjee had left his home in his vehicle that morning and was accosted by the kidnappers near the corner of Forestry and Bergh streets.

It is alleged the perpetrators were travelling in two vehicles and blocked him at a stop street. Gun shots were heard in the vicinity and the victim’s vehicle, a Mercedes Benz GLC 250,  was found abandoned near the corner of Forestry and Bergh streets.

Abramjee added that it is unclear whether any ransom was paid.


LIMPOPO – The police has launched an urgent appeal for information following the kidnapping of a businessman.

36-year-old Shama Premjee from Louis Trichardt was reportedly kidnapped at around 07:50 this morning (Friday, 9 April) after he left his place of residence in his vehicle.

Police Spokesperson, Brig Motlafela Mojapelo says Premjee was stopped by the perpetrators a short distance away from his house.

“It is alleged the perpetrators were travelling in two vehicles and stopped him at a stop street. One vehicle blocked him front the front and the other from the rear to prevent the victim from driving away.”

He added that gun shots were reportedly heard in the vicinity and the victim’s vehicle, a Mercedes Benz GLC 250,  was found abandoned near the corner of Forestry and Bergh streets.

“The suspects were reportedly last seen travelling in a grey Hyundai Accent and another silver sedan towards the Njhelele road on the N1 north.”
