DJ Phonik speaks of his aspirations
The 21-year-old Ndweleni Murovhi, known as DJ Phonik has overcome many stumbling blocks before receiving recognition as a DJ.
LIMPOPO – The 21-year-old Ndweleni Murovhi, known as DJ Phonik, is confident that he will one day be one of the best DJs in the country, as long as he continues to nurture his talent.
DJ Phonik, who hails from Muraleni in the Sinthumule area, ventured into the music industry about four years ago, with just a laptop at his disposal. He had to overcome many stumbling blocks before receiving recognition as a DJ and was offered the opportunity to play at big events around the area.
He remembers how he had to persuade people to add him to the playing list at events. “I used to play without any payment. I had to pay for all my own expenses, including transportation to get to the event. But I didn’t give up because I knew it was worth it,” he said.
When he was younger, he was a big fan of DJs such as Black Coffee and DJ Maphorisa, but he never imagined that he would one day be doing what they do.
“I believe that if you want go far, always be positive,” he said.
“Follow your dreams and never look back. Have your own style. Don’t imitate anyone, just be yourself. Pray for God to pave your way. My long-term goal is to be a good producer, DJ and entertainer.”
He loves music and he always tries to make sure that he stays up to date with new songs and knows what type of music people want to listen to.
“I hope to perform at one of the biggest concerts before the end of this year, but I know that I will achieve this goal,” he said.
DJ Phonik specialises in amapiano house music. He aims for national and international recognition, to show the world Venda’s exceptional talent.
“This industry needs time, but it has been good to me despite the challenges I’m faced with. I want to see myself sharing the stage with big artists like Black Coffee and DJ Maphorisa,” he said.
