MOKOPANE – Municipal services at the Mogalakwena Municipality which were suspended on Thursday, 20 May are back in operation.

Acting Municipal Manager, Hendrick Steven Malose Ngoepe, instructed the employees to return to work today (Friday, 21 May). “The unfortunate situation that transpired has been addressed,” said Ngoepe in a Facebook post on the Mogalakwena Municipality’s Facebook page.

On Thursday morning, various municipal contractors, including water tank operators, blocked the entrance to the municipal offices demanding payment for services rendered. Complainants alleged that they had not been paid for services rendered, since September last year.

“We had a meeting with the Political Management Team (PMT) and the section 56 manager. Today, the financial department will present the report to the PMT and they will then take the matter to parliament,” Tebogo Legodi, a complainant, told Bosveld.

The municipality will reportedly revert back to the complaints today with answers. The trucks have since been removed from the entrance, but Legodi added that they will continue picket again if the municipality fails to pay them.
