Solly Mokgehle helps young people further their studies

Founder of Funda Mzala Foundation, Solly Mokgehle is on a mission to restore hope in the youth by affording them a second opportunity at education.

LIMPOPO – South African Police Service (SAPS), reservist, Solly Mokgehle from Moletjie is on a mission to help young people further their studies without any limitations through his non-profit foundation called Funda Mzala Foundation.

Solly is a multiple graduate with various qualification under his name including: public finance and accounting from Tshwane University of Technology (TUT) and municipal financial management from the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits), and he is currently enrolled for a post graduate certificate in education and degree in theology at Unisa.

“Funda Mzala Foundation is found on the basis of “youth and education” and we are focused primarily on assisting young people to learn/study without limitations. We have many youth projects that we are implementing, such as that we currently identify learners from primary school and high schools who have lost their parents due to Covid-19 and ensure to support them in any form to help them get on with life after their tragic loss. We collect either school uniforms, stationery and basic food necessities and donate to them and their families, we also assist by providing social work relief services to them and their families to help them deal with the losses accordingly,” he explained.

The second project the foundation is rolling out is to young people from the age of 21 and older who have dropped out of school and are now hopeless and doing nothing at home because they can’t find a job. The foundation helps these young people to re-register to rewrite their Gr 12 academic assessment and those below encouraged to go back to school, with this project they have partnered with Polokwane Centre of Education. “We would like to see all youth from communities in the programme progressing and excelling in their studies and in the end acquiring jobs that will have a positive impact not only in their lives but also in the communities where they come from,” he added.

Solly says they are looking to partner with qualified graduates in the field of social work, psychology and theology to help mentor and train those young people looking to follow and pursue careers in those fields.
