Former prosecutor found guilty of bribery

The man was arrested after he demanded a bribe from the complainant to destroy a docket.

LIMPOPO – Molatelo Herbert Serumula (46) will appear in court on 28 June for pre-sentencing after the court this week found him guilty on a charge of corruption.

The accused was a prosecutor at Morebeng Magistrate’s Court and was arrested on 19 November 2018 after he demanded a bribe from a complainant to squash a docket.

Hawks Spokesperson, Capt Matimba Maluleke explained that the complainant had been arrested for possession of suspected stolen property and Serumula told him to pay a bribe of R2 000 in order for his docket to disappear. “The compliant gave him R1 500 and the case was withdrawn but after Serumula demanded more money the complaint reported the matter to the Serious Corruption Investigation Unit.”

The Giyani Specialized Commercial Crime Court of corruption this week extended his bail until his next court appearance.
