[VIDEO] One person dead in fiery collision on N1 south

The collision between a sedan and hatchback happened on the N1-25 earlier this afternoon.

LIMPOPO – One person is dead an another seriously injured after two vehicles collided on the Ysterberg pass on Thursday afternoon at around 14:10. 

The incident happened along the N1 South near the off ramp to Mokopane and involved a hatchback and a sedan.

According to the spokesperson for the Department of Transport and Community Safety, Matomi Moremi-Taueatsoala the driver of the hatchback lost control of the vehicle and collided into the rear end of the sedan. “The hatchback caught fire and the driver, a 25-year-old man, was declared dead on the scene,” he said.

The driver of the sedan sustained serious injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital for medical treatment.

A case of reckless driving has been opened at the Mokopane Police Station.

LIMPOPO – Traffic officials and police are still on the scene of a vehicle fire on the N1 South. The incident happened on the Ysterberg pass between Polokwane and Mokopane at around 15:30.

It is not yet clear how many vehicles were involved or how many people died in the collision. Motorists have been advised to use the alternative R101 road.
