[WATCH] Protest action: W’Burg streets blocked for a third day

POLOKWANE – Residents of Westenburg have blocked West Street, for a third day. Reports suggest that Lawton Road in Nirvana is currently accessible. 

Westenburg Police Station Commander, Lt Col Maimele Pilusa, told Review that the crowd will be dispersed “soon”.

POLOKWANE – Review spoke to Westenburg Police Station Commander, Lt Col Maimele Pilusa, who was at the protest action near the N1 south.

“The road was blocked with stones and burning tyres, but we managed to disperse the crowd and unblock the road,” he explained.

POLOKWANE – Unhappy residents have blocked roads for a second day. According to information, Lawton Road in Nirvana has been blocked.

Yesterday, both Lawton Road and West Street in Westenburg were blocked by protestors in a reported dispute with their ward councillor.

According to Municipal Spokesperson, Thipa Selala, a task team was elected by the community to interact with the municipality and the ward councillor.

“The municipality is currently engaging with the community representatives to determine the issues surrounding the protest. They will work together to address the issues,” he explained.

Meanwhile, motorists are urged to avoid the area and use alternative routes where possible.
