[WATCH] Traffic officials issue fines, enforce warrants of arrest

The Department of Transport deployed their new fleet of bakkies this morning and set up several roadblocks in an effort to combat lawlessness on roads in the province.

LIMPOPO – Over 90 motorists were screened for outstanding fines and a total of 17 warrants of arrest enforced during law enforcement operations which were conducted earlier this morning.

According to a statement issued by the Spokesperson for the Department of Transport and Community Safety, Matomi Moremi-Taueatsoala, the operations were conducted through roadblocks which were setup along streets in and around Mokopane in the Waterberg district.

Moremi-Taueatsoala said the main focus of these operations was to screen motorists for outstanding traffic infringement fines and check the validity of drivers licenses.

“The operation started at around 05:00 along the N11 road near Sekgakgapeng village and continued to the intersection of Dudu Madisha and Drankensburg streets. Over 384 vehicles where stopped and checked, 94 drivers screened for outstanding fines, 17 warrants of arrests were enforced, 17 summons issued on traffic law infringements,” he explained.

The officials also impounded seven taxis, two buses and discontinued one taxi.

The operation was conducted together with Traffic Operations Deputy Director at Waterberg district, Simon Kekana who thanked the MEC of Transport and Community Safety, Mavhungu Lerule-Ramakhanya for the support provided by the provincial department.
