The challenge is being attended to, says Thipa Selala, Spokesperson for the Polokwane Municipality.

POLOKWANE – The municipal call centre is currently experiencing technical difficulties and will be temporarily out of service. Thipa Selala, Spokesperson for the Polokwane Municipality says the centre is currently experiencing technical difficulties.

“The electrical, water and sanitation and emergency lines have been affected.” He adds that the technical team is attending to this challenge and the municipality will provide an update once the service is restored.

Meanwhile the municipality is also being inundated with incidents of theft and vandalism of electrical infrastructure.

Selala says that this financial year alone, the municipality has suffered approximately R2 million as a result of these activities. “Theft and vandalism of service infrastructure impacts negatively on the safety and security of residents and hampers the municipality’s efforts of providing quality services. These incidents come at the time when the municipality is busy implementing measures to deal with street lights repairs as a result of the maintenance backlog.”

The latest incident of vandalism and theft happened on Saturday evening in Ladanna. Street lights were vandalized and wires stolen on a large scale, he explains.

The municipality is working closely with the police and community policing forums to be minimise these criminal activities and ask residents to assist in this fight by reporting any suspicious activity to Polokwane Municipality’s Law Enforcement services at 015 023 5484 or to the police.
