Joyce Monareng murder: Court denies bail to accused (23)

Residents protested outside the courtroom where the accused in the murder of 50-year-old Joyce Monareng, appeared.

POLOKWANE – The man accused of killing 50-year-old estate agent from Polokwane was denied bail in Seshego Court on Tuesday, 13 April.

Police Spokesperson, Col Moatshe Ngoepe says the 23-year-old is accused of the murder of Joyce Monareng and will remain in custody until his next court appearance on 4 June.

Monareng was attacked in her vehicle on 14 October in Seshego, Zone 8. Preliminary police investigations at the time revealed that the said vehicle was stopped at an intersection when the victim was seen emerging from the vehicle.

“Police received a call from a member of the community about the body of a woman lying in the street and reacted to find the deceased lying on the street next to a grey sedan. She had multiple stab wounds and was certified dead on the scene by the emergency medical personnel.”

In November the police offered a R100 000 monetary reward for information that could assist the police in the murder investigation.

The suspect was arrested in Moletjie on 1 December after he was found in the possession of the deceased’s stolen items. He faces charges of murder and robbery with aggravating circumstances.

He first appeared in court on 3 December and has been in custody ever since. During his last court appearances residents gathered outside the courtroom in support of the Monareng family. They stood in unison and called for justice to take it’s course.
