Lim-CareWell staff: The friendly faces behind the masks

Meet the friendly staff of Lim-CareWell who will be there for you in your time of need.

POLOKWANE – Lim-CareWell centre is up and running, ready to accommodate palliative and frail care patients. The non-profit organisation has taken over the care at the Theunis Fichardt Hospitium (THF) facility and will focus on promoting holistic wellness for patients through passion for care. Their motto is ‘no bed sores’.

Review interviewed their nursing staff. Learn a little more about them here:

Lattie Matlou has been a case worker in the medical field for two years.
“The best part about my job is to see the smile on people’s faces when they receive love and support in their time of need. In this field, you learn the true meaning of Ubuntu as you meet and help different people from various races, nationalities and colour. This job gives me the ability to feel like I am making a difference in my country and I can proudly say I was here.”

Lattie says patience towards my patients, trustworthiness, critical-thinking, stamina, and good communication skills are qualities you need to be a nurse. She spends her free time volunteering at agencies, spending time with friends and family and doing outdoor activities.

Valerie Khalushi has 38 years of experience in caring for ill people and infection control issues. “The best part of my job is to give total patient care.”

Roslyn Mokwatlo has been in the medical field for six years. “The best part about my job is forming unique bonds with my patients. When you are a nurse, you’re not just taking care of patients, you’re taking care of their families too. Being a nurse helps to make a big difference in the world, bring hope and save lives. Qualities needed for this work include exceptional communication skills, quick problem solving, empathetic disposition and a sense of humor.”

Roslyn spends her free time going to church, doing household chores and volunteering at a recycling programme in her community.

Pheladi Doreen Sema has been in the medical industry for four years and has one and a half years of training behind her. “I love basic nursing care; taking vital signs, feeding and assisting the patients with their ablutions and exercise routines. In order to be a nurse you need to have good communication skills, be honest, be trustworthy, have emotional stability and be able to show initiative when necessary.”

In her free time Pheladi enjoys making food.

Johanna Matli has been in the medical field for 43 years. “The best part about my job is to care for others and my dedication and honesty are my best qualities. I also need to have passion, competency and commitment. I spent my free time reading, visiting needy patients and empowering people through living healthy and exercising.”

Sophie Mphela has been in the medical industry for roughly one year and three months. “The best part of my job is to help someone better their state of health. It’s a great job because I get to bond with my patients and meet new people.”

She says that the first and foremost part of being a nurse is passion for your job. “Be kind, caring, have empathy for others, good communication skills and exhibit patience. Have the heart to deal with patients in various states of mind and health. You have to remember that they are in pain and are in need of your help no matter how they speak to you. Just smile and assist them. Nursing also requires a lot of prayer.”
In her free time, Sophie likes to read and watch series, mostly medical dramas. “That’s where I also learn some of the traits I need to deal with different situations in the work place.”

Sophie hopes to open a homeless shelter in the future and is working on raising money for the project.

Tebogo Georgina Moabelo has worked in the medical field for the past 31 years. “The most rewarding thing I have found about being a nurse is the personal connection that I am able to make with patients. No matter how long it has been, a patient remembers their nurse. They may or may not remember the nurse’s name, but they remember if they were kind and compassionate.”

She says qualities needed for nursing includes compassion, emotional intelligence, resilience to stress and patient assessment skills.

“In my free time, I like to watch TV and read magazines.”

Rachel Thulare has been in the medical field for five years. “The best part about my job is that I get to interact with different people from different backgrounds. I get to learn something new from my patients every day. Seeing them get better because I’ve helped them is one of the most fulfilling things about my job, and makes me feel that I am playing an important role in someone’s life and I am doing the right things. You need to be a very patient person in order to be able to deal with the patients as every patient is different and some patients are more difficult to deal with than others. You need to be a hard worker and resilient because you stand on your feet for long hours and have to deal with situations hands-on.”

In her free time, she likes to read books, do housework, spend quality time with her family and listen to good music.
