POLOKWANE – The R71 Road between Polokwane and Mankweng which was closed earlier during a service delivery protest, is open.
Spokesperson for the Transport Department, Matomi Moremi-Taueatsoala says protesters have been dispersed by Public Order Police (POP).
“The R71 road at Mamahule is open and traffic is flowing.”

POLOKWANE – Protesters, early this morning used burning tyres and various debris to block the R71 road in both directions, next to Mamahule approximately 10km outside Polokwane.
Reports of stone throwing have also been noted. Spokesperson for the Transport Department, Matomi Moremi-Taueatsoala says motorists travelling to Polokwane are advised to use to the alternative R81 road.

“Motorists travelling towards Mankweng are to use the R81 road then join the road from Unit C to Sebayeng.”
The reason behind the protest is reportedly land disputes and lack of service delivery in the area.
Motorists are warned of traffic backups along the R81 road.
