Aqua Drip will quench the thirst

Percy Maleka and Rehlotse Setlago are the co-founders of Aqua Drip.

“Water is life, but purified water is longer life.”

These are the words of Percy Maleka, the co-founder of Aqua Drip, a bottled water brand that he founded with Rehlotse Setlago. The two youths took an interest in bottling water back in 2019 and started out with it called ‘Drip’ but overtime with improvements being implemented, they had a final product called ‘Aqua Drip’.

The name is a play on the slang word ‘drip’ which refers to a person’s sense of style that is considered ‘cool’.

“We wanted the brand to appeal to the young people but still have it relevant to the older generation. We did not only focus on aesthetics; we have quality purified water that is meant to meet the high standards of our customers,” explained Percy.

Percy said that he used to drink tap water, but decided to change to purified water and has not looked back after realising that purified water quenches one’s thirst whereas tap water is thick and filling. It took them just over six months to have a product that was ready to be presented to the public. “A lot of work and research went into Aqua Drip because it had to stand out and be appealing to customers. The water business is growing as more and more people want to know what they are drinking,” he said.

Their major challenge at the moment is capital as they started the business from scratch, out of their own pockets. “Not having the capital means that we cannot produce the quantity that we would like and currently the water is only available in 500ml bottles. Another challenge has been breaking into the market where we are competing with bigger and more established brands. We are, however, growing steadily and the reception to our water has been amazing,” he added.

In the next two years, consumers can expect to see Aqua Drip in various sizes of bottles to cater for various needs. The plan is to also use environmentally friendly material. “We would like to have franchise Aqua Drip shops and see more influencers drinking our water,” he said.
