Magna Via five denied bail

The five accused appeared before the Polokwane Magistrate’s Court earlier today.

POLOKWANE – The case against the five accused in the double murder of Makoena Leshabane (46) and Tebogo Mphuti (35) was postponed to 17 May for further police investigation.

The five suspects, John Zulu (30), Ndondo Buthelezi (25), Bhekimeze Phiyose (34) and Thembelani Dlamini (30) as well as Makoena’s husband, Thabo Stanley Leshabane (57) appeared before the Polokwane Magistrate’s Court earlier today.

The suspects each face two counts of murder and illegal possession of firearms and ammunition. Leshabane and Mphuti were shot and killed ‘execution style’ on 10 October 2020 in Magna Via.

Preliminary police investigations, at the time, revealed that the two women were with a local property agent, viewing various business premises with the view of renting, when the shooting occurred. According to earlier reports Leshabane’s husband was hospitalised after he reportedly attempted to take his own life and was arrested while still in hospital.

Their murder sparked community outcry with protestors gathering outside the Polokwane Magistrate’s court religiously for all the appearances. The Police investigations are still continuing.
