3 arrested following business robbery outside Mokopane

An unlicensed firearm, knife, 12 explosives and electric cables were recovered.

LIMPOPO – The Provincial Policer Commissioner, Lt Gen Nneke Ledwaba has sent out a stern warning to criminals that the police are ready for any criminal activities this Easter weekend.

Ledwaba send out the warning, after the arrest of three men, between the ages of 27 and 34.

According Police Spokesperson, Col Moatshe Ngoepe, the men were arrested during an ongoing clean-up operation conducted in the Mahwelereng policing area outside Mokopane. The operation comprised of several police units.

Ngoepe said the three men are suspected to have been involved in a business robbery and carjacking incident, which occurred in the Gilead policing area outside Mokopane on Wednesday evening, 31 March.

“The police spotted a White Nissan NP300 at Mahwelereng Hospital View. They searched the vehicle thoroughly and recovered an unlicensed firearm, a knife, 12 explosives, electric cables and other items. A second motor vehicle was also confiscated in the area and its origin will be determined by ongoing police investigations,” his statement read.

Ledwaba praised the police officers for reacting promptly.

“All criminals are warned that as the South African Police Service in Limpopo, we are ready for this Easter weekend. We will leave no stone unturned and members of the community are advised to report any criminal activity in and around their areas immediately to the police,” concluded Ledwaba.

The men are set to appear in the Mahwelereng Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, 6 April, to face charges of possession of suspected stolen motor vehicles, the possession of an unlicensed firearm, business robbery, car hijacking and the possession of explosives.
