LIMPOPO – The Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) are investigating the death of three people as a result of police action.
Ndileka Cola, IPID National Spokesperson said the incident happened at a tavern in Dennilton between the hours of Sunday evening late and Monday morning and involved a police constable who is attached to the Dennilton Police’s Crime Intelligence Unit.
Three people were fatally shot and a fourth person injured and hospitalised after the incident, she added.
“According to information received thus far, the constable visited the tavern on Sunday with his niece, whereby and argument broke out between the officer and other patrons. Three people were shot and killed and a fourth person injured during the incident,” Cola explained.
The injured patron was admitted to hospital with gunshot wounds, she said.
It is reported that prior to this incident , the constable had received a tip-off that certain people from Pretoria would be arriving in Dennilton on Sunday, 28 March. “He sought the necessary approval from the commander to act on the information who advised him to get his colleague to go with him, but due to other challenges his colleague could not join him,” Cola added.
The officer will be charged with three counts of murder and one count of attempted murder.
“The directorate has arranged for the post-mortem for Wednesday, 31 March,” she concluded.
