Construction of traffic department in Seshego to begin in 2022

The newly constructed centre will alleviate the pressure in Polokwane of applicants for driving licences and the testing of motor vehicles.

POLOKWANE – During his recent State of the Province Address, Premier Chupu Mathabatha confirmed that the construction of the Seshego Traffic Department was in the pipeline for the current financial year.

The Spokesperson for Transport, Matome Moremi-Taueatsoala, in an interview with BONUS said a decision was taken during a Treasury bi-lateral meeting, for the department to look for a site in which another driving licence testing centre and vehicle testing station could be built.

“We realised that there is pressure on the Polokwane Traffic Department due to queues and the fact that people have to wake up in the early hours of the morning to access these services. There are many economic activities within the city, which necessitate the need for traffic services,” he said.

Moremi-Taueatsoala says land was identified in Seshego and that Public Works was tasked to work on designs for the multiyear project, which is estimated to cost R30 million.

A budget of R6 million has been set aside to initiate the project and a further R21 million allocated for construction of the project in 2022.

“The centre will have an administration block for a testing ground and a motor vehicle pit that will alleviate the pressure in Polokwane of applicants for driving licences and the testing of motor vehicles.”

The registering authority will be operational during the 2021/22 financial year as it is pending the appointment of personnel.
