2021 Easter ‘Arrive Alive’ road safety campaign kicks off today

Speeding, reckless and drunk driving remains the route causes of road fatalities in Limpopo and the Department of Transport will focus their efforts on the N1 and the R71.

POLOKWANE – The Department of Transport and Community Safety launched the three-fold 2021 Easter Road Safety Arrive Alive campaign today in Polokwane. At the launch MEC Mavhungu Lerule-Ramakhanya shared their plans for the campaign and called on all stakeholders, vested with the responsibility to oversee safety on provincial roads, to join hands and work together to reduce the number of road fatalities this Easter.

Limpopo is anticipating high traffic volumes at the end of this month with thousands of road users coming home for Easter. “Holiday makers will be exploring the tourism sector of the province while migrant workers will come home for the long weekend.

“High traffic volumes are expected on the N1 between Pretoria and the Beitbridge border post via Polokwane and the department seeks to heighten visibility of law-enforcers on all the roads in a form of operations and speed cameras.”

The department will also focus on the R71 between Polokwane and Tzaneen which is a hot spot for accidents.

“We call on the public to avoid unnecessary trips and those who use our roads to comply with the road rules and do their part in reducing road fatalities this Easter.

Speeding, reckless and drunk driving remain the route causes of road fatalities in the province. “Our Arrive Alive campaign kicks off today and road users are warned that our traffic officials will not have mercy and will arrest those who are guilty of not adhering to regulations,” she concluded.
