20-year-old Chantelle Ash was strangled along with her infant at a lodge outside Mokopane on 14 January.

MOKOPANE – The case against the accused in the murder of 20-year-old Chantelle and her baby Tasneem Ash, was once again postponed by the Mokerong Magistrate’s Court in Mahwelereng.

The 29-year-old accused was arrested on 21 January and was denied bail during a previous court appearance. In court last week the judge postponed the case to Friday, 14 May for further police investigation. The accused remains in custody.

Bosveld previously reported that the lifeless bodies of the mother and her baby were found by an employee in a lodge in Masodi village outside Mokopane on Thursday, 14 January. According to police reports the woman and her child were together with an unknown man and had booked into the room on Tuesday, 12 January at around 19:00.

“The trio were dropped off outside the gate of the lodge and the man booked a room for the night. “He did not provide any personal information and told the receptionist that they will leave the next day (Wednesday, 13 January),” said Police Spokesperson, Col Moatshe Ngoepe. The next morning someone went to clean the room and found the bodies of Chantelle and Tasneen, then alerted the police.

Both victims were strangled to death.
