Operation “Thata Zonke” operatives nab man (42) with stolen mobile devices and laptops

The man was nabbed with stolen goods are worth over R500 000 in the Westenburg policing area, says the police.

The Acting Provincial Commissioner of the South African Police Service in Limpopo, Major General Samuel Manala has complimented the tireless efforts by police to fight crime in the city. This after the members arrested a thief, a man dealing in illegal cigarettes and a drug dealer in separate operations this past week.

In the first arrest, the police nabbed a 42-year-old man who was found in the possession of over R1 million worth of stolen property. The man was nabbed in the Westenburg policing area during Operation “Thata Zonke” which comprised of the Polokwane Crime Intelligence Unit, the Capricorn District Tracing and First Responders Task Teams, says Police Spokesperson, Col Moatshe Ngoepe.

“During the arrest, the police confiscated 17 laptops, 56 tablets and 223 cellphones. The preliminary police investigations have revealed that one of the confiscated cell phones, was stolen an hour before the operation was conducted and the owner was found in the Community Service Center busy opening a case of theft out of motor vehicle,” he explained.

The estimated value of the confiscated items is more than R500 000 and the origin of these items will still be determined through ongoing investigations.

Meanwhile, the police have also arrested a 52-year-old man for selling illicit cigarettes. “Members of the Limpopo Highway Patrol Team (LHP) received information about a wholesale retail store that was selling illicit cigarettes to the public at Nirvana. They reacted on on arrival at the said store they found 10 boxes of illicit cigarettes hidden in the storeroom.” The illicit goods are valued at around R225 000 and a 52-year-old man (business owner) was arrested on the spot, Ngoepe said.

Whereas, in Bendor the police apprehended a 37-year-old man for dealing in drugs. “The police searched the accused’s house after they received information about his alleged illegal dealings. A vehicle which is believed to be the one he used to deliver these drugs was also confiscated during the operation,” added Ngoepe.

The arrested suspects are expected to appear in the Polokwane Magistrate’s Court soon.
