LIMPOPO – The police in Tomburke outside Lephalale have called on Meluzu Andison Khumalo (pictured) to avail himself at his nearest police station.

UPDATE: Limpopo security guard shot: Police arrest suspect (39)

According to a statement by Police Spokesperson Brig Motlafela Mojapelo, Khumalo can assist in their investigations in the death of Matshembe Mphambanyene (40).

Mphambanyene was reportedly shot dead and his body was found on Friday morning by fellow security guards.

“His body was found in the guardroom at the weigh bridge, which is situated along the N11 next to the Groblersbrug border post. The deceased’s body had a bullet wound,” Mojapelo explained.

He said the officer’s body was found when he and his partner were supposed to be relieved of their duties.

“His service pistol was missing and his colleague was nowhere to be found. The police were called and commenced with the necessary follow-ups,” he added.

Preliminary investigations revealed that Mphambanyene’s partner was seen at Sefihlilo village at around 04:00, when he was supposed to be at work.

“It is believed that the suspect might have shot and killed his colleague, took his firearm and fled the scene. It is also believed that he might have fled to Protea Glen in Soweto, Gauteng,” Mojapelo said.

He requested anyone with information that can help in their investigations, to contact the station commander, Capt Mphoto Mphoto Malesela at 082 469 1079.

“Alternatively, they can call the investigating officer, WO Pitso Radipabe at 082 414 2279 or the Crime Stop number at 08600 10111,” he concluded.
