New block unveiled at NA

The management of Northern Academy Secondary School unveiled the new learner affairs block to the learners and stakeholders last Friday.

POLOKWANE – The block will be used to cater to all services relating to the welfare of learners.

Head of learner affairs at the school, Lohann Oosthuizen, said the facility will complement the school’s sickbay and it will also enable the school to explore ways of making its services and location more accessible.

“From a sickbay that had only two beds to a fully equipped facility with five beds, one of which is an actual doctors’ examination bed, two sickbay attendants who are available 24/7 and two on-call doctors, we really have come a long way.”

He also added that the block boasts a host of qualified personnel, including the school’s social worker who holds a Master’s degree in social work and is also a qualified career analyst. “The learners of Northern Academy will receive assistance in a positive and holistic manner from the learner affairs block. Although the academic block and all its personnel can be seen as the brains and nerve system of the school, the learner affairs block can be seen as the heart of the school.”

He also indicated that the facility allows for an ambulance and other emergency vehicles to safely park and provide all services needed. “With the pandemic still upon us, it also allows for the correct isolation of learners and staff displaying symptoms before they are removed from campus”.
