Limpopo Health MEC: ‘Stay committed in our battle against Covid-19’

Health MEC, Phophi Ramathuba warned against complacency due to the easing of lockdown regulations.

We need to stay committed in our battle against Covid-19.

This is the message by the Health MEC, Phophi Ramathuba who recently warned against complacency due to the easing of lockdown regulations.

“Residents should be warned that, while the president has relaxed the country into Covid-19 alert level 1, the virus is still very much with us.”

Ramathuba urged citizens to remain careful as they head into the Easter holiday season.

“Guided by the lessons we drew from the festive season, we have a reason to be concerned about the coming Easter and school holidays. Covid-19 has not departed and it is still virulent.

“This complacency that we are seeing at parties, weddings, funerals and other gatherings on weekends is actually leading us into a dangerous terrain.”

She advised that community members should take caution when organising and attending gatherings which are permissible under the current alert level, and ensure to take precautionary measures against the Covid-19 virus.

Ramathuba says the anticipated third wave will be extremely disastrous if the current complacency continues.

“People are now relaxed as if alert level 1 is synonymous with the virus being over. Epidemiologists have, however, warned us against the third wave and the time to be extra careful is now, because it can get disastrous if the third wave makes an entrance before we can complete the first phase of vaccinations.”
