Local couple in court for fraud and theft

The couple from Polokwane were arrested in Tzaneen on Tuesday. 

A couple from the city, aged 44 and 52, appeared in the Polokwane Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, 9 March for fraud and theft. The couple are accused of defrauding a local cash loan company of R105 000.

A statement issued by the Hawks’ Serious Commercial Crime Investigation Unit, Sampo Maaboyi reads that the husband and wife were employed as the manager and admin clerk in 2018 and manipulated the company’s financial records for over a period of two years.

“The company discovered the suspicious transactions during an internal audit. A case of fraud was opened and referred to the Hawks”.

Maaboyi added that the two accused were traced and eventually arrested on 9 March in Tzaneen.

In court on Tuesday the couple were granted R500 bail each and their case was postponed to 14 April.
