Limpopo man beaten by Ha-Mutsha residents following attack on ex-wife

The man was arrested and a case of assault, which is domestic violence related, was opened.

LIMPOPO – A 49-year-old man was arrested after being tied to a tree and beaten up by Ha-Mutsha residents, following the assault of his ex-wife (45).

The man was sought by Levubu police for violating a protection order.

Police Spokesperson, Brig Motlafela Mojapelo says the man was earlier issued with a protection order related to domestic issues.

“He was later arrested for violation of the order and was given bail. A warrant of arrest was then issued for the man after he allegedly failed to appear in court,” Mojapelo added.

On Saturday, 7 March, the man went to his ex-wife’s workplace and threatened security, demanding to see her. “He was pushed out of the premises but re-entered using force. He was chased by security before boarding a taxi and fleeing,” Mojapelo added.

He then went to his ex-wife’s house later that day and reportedly assaulted her.

“She sustained serious injuries and was taken to hospital for medical treatment. The community then mobilised and cornered the man,” Mojapelo said.

The man was arrested and a case of assault, which is domestic violence related, was opened.

According to Mojapelo, the man appeared in the Vuwani Magistrate’s Court on Monday, where he was sentenced to three months’ imprisonment or ordered to pay a R1 000 fine, because a warrant of arrest was issued.

“His case of violation of protection order was remanded to 25 March, and he still has to appear in court soon, to face a charge of assault with the intent to do grievous bodily harm. He is still in custody,” Mojapelo explained.
