Seven killed in multi-vehicle collision on N1 near Modimolle
One person sustained serious injuries.
LIMPOPO – A multi-vehicle collision on the N1 near Modimolle last night, claimed the lives of seven people.
The Transport Department’s Media Liaison Officer, Mike Maringa, said one person is currently in hospital after sustaining serious injuries.

“A bakkie’s trailer allegedly broke and was hit at the rear end by a trailing sedan. Another sedan also collided with the first mentioned vehicles,” Maringa explained.
He said preliminary investigation cites mechanical problems as a possible cause of the incident.
“Four occupants in the one sedan were killed instantly and two passengers from the bakkie were also certified dead on the scene,” he added.
Maringa said two people were rushed to a hospital in Modimolle, where one succumbed to their injuries.
“Transport MEC, Mavhungu Lerule-Ramakhanya has sent messages of condolences to the victims’ families. She urges motorists to continuously check the condition of their vehicles and to drive within the prescribed speed limits,” Maringa concluded.
