Limpopo’s best teacher sets sights on top prize

The province's Best Teacher in 2019, Florence Bekwa (34), has her eyes set on the Global Teachers Awards.

LIMPOPO – The teacher of Magageni Primary School in Malamulele was selected to represent the province at the awards, which will be held later this month.

A date and venue is still to be confirmed, but Bekwa hopes to make her province and country proud.

“I’m so excited about the awards and hope to win it. Winning the award will show teachers and learners from rural communities, that it is possible to achieve great things if you work hard and put your mind to it. It does not matter where you are from, you can still make it in life,” she said.

After Bekwa was voted the best in the province in 2019, she took second place in the National Teachers Awards in 2019, where she received a trophy, prize money and a car.

She added that her achievements are all thanks to the grace of God and she thanks the Almighty for His guidance and protection over her life.

“I would like to thank my mother, spiritual parents, principal, colleagues, learners and the school governing body for their continued support. I promise to work even harder and strive to receive more awards in future, ensuring the school, community and province get acknowledged for the good work we do,” she said.

The SGB Chairperson, Malamulele Sombhane, said they are proud of Bekwa, and thanked her for being a good representative for the school.

Collins Chabane Mayor, Moses Maluleke applauded her for putting the municipality on the map and indicated that they are very proud of her.
