No wasted opportunities for ‘Dustbin Man’

Matsobane Ernest Ledwaba wants his name to become synonymous with waste storage management.

The graduate of arts in developmental studies does not believe in failure, despite getting a cold shoulder from big companies when he wants to talk business.

Matsobane shared that he failed Gr 11 twice before he passed on the third attempt and used that experience to never fail again.

He is taking the mindset into business, no matter how many attempts it takes, he will keep trying and knocking on doors until the right one opens because giving up is not an option.

He has always been business-minded and recalls selling shoes in 2012, when he was doing his second year at varsity.

“They used to call me Malucky wa dieta, which loosely translates to ‘Malucky, the shoes guy’. I have never been one to sit around and relax, waiting for opportunities to be given to me,” he said.

He has outgrown the university nickname and now is aiming at being known as ‘Warra wa D’bin’ meaning ‘Dustbin Man’.

He started his business of maintaining dustbins after it dawned on him that he would soon be graduating and there was no promise of finding employment.

“The fear of unemployment crept in and I started looking for opportunities to start something. I saw a gap in the market of the maintenance of dustbins after I saw a number of them that were not in good condition. Every operating business needs a dustbin and many are functioning with an old one in desperate need of maintenance,” he said.

His business is growing slowly but he feels it could be better if people would give him the opportunity to show that waste management does require maintenance.

“I am not deterred though. I have a dream and it will come to fruition, it will just take longer but I believe in my business and myself,” he added.
