No arrests yet following bomb threat at local vehicle dealership

Police in Westenburg attended to a bomb threat at the KIA dealership at Polokwane Multifranchise on Tuesday.

A manager at the dealership alerted the police after a bomb threat had been received, and the relevant police units were dispatched to the scene.

Police Spokesperson, Brig Motlafela Mojapelo says according to Kia staff, they had received an e-mail indicating that they should deliver a vehicle to a shopping centre in Mankweng, failing upon which the dealership would be bombed by lunch time.

The matter was swiftly reported to the police.

“The police were able to mobilise the bomb squad, and employees were evacuated while the premises were searched as per protocol.

“A total of 37 rooms and 26 new vehicles were searched, the scene was declared safe.”

Mojapelo says no arrests have been made yet and investigations continue.

Meanwhile, business resumes as usual at Polokwane Multifranchise.

Dealer Principal, Mark Vermaak opted not to comment on the incident, while an attempt for comment from KIA South Africa was referred back to the local dealership.
