Polokwane doctor first in line for Covid-19 vaccination

Dr Mabowa Makhomisane, a general practitioner at Metro Med, is elated to be the first private general practitioner in Limpopo to be vaccinated against Covid-19.

During a recent meeting of the Limpopo Independent Practitioners Association, Makhomisane as the chairperson, volunteered to be vaccinated first.

Instead of wanting to receive preference Makhomisane said it is all about setting an example. A total of 300 doses of the Johnson&Johnson vaccine will arrive in Polokwane with the Pietersburg Provincial Hospital and Mankweng Hospital frontline staff that will first benefit.

“Doctors should set the example. If I too get vaccinated, this will help to alleviate the fears that exist in the comunities. I will be able to tell the patients whom I will be vaccinating, that I have indeed been vaccinated myself. I have complete faith in the vaccine,” said Makhomisane. He dispelled some of the myths associated with why people do not want to be vaccinated.

“One of the myths is that people believe that the vaccine will enhance their chances of contracting Covid-19. This is untrue. The vaccine prepares your body to protect itself against Covid-19. The other myths that the vaccine will be used to control people through 5G network, is not possible.”

Makhomisane got injected with the vaccine today, and did so live on Facebook to prove his point.

He told Polokwane Observer he believes the vaccine is the silver bullet that the country needs against Covid-19, with an efficacy rate of 87%.
