Duo arrested in Mookgophong for possession of elelphant tusks

In a separate incident, two men were arrested for dealing in dagga while another was arrested after he insulted and threatened police.

LIMPOPO – The Saps Endangered Species Unit, together with SANParks members, arrested two men in the Waterberg district on Tuesday.

The men, aged 21 and 36, were arrested in Naboomspruit for being in possession of two elephant tusks, according to Police Spokesperson, Col Moatshe Ngoepe. “

The origin and destination of these tusks will still be determined by the ongoing police investigation,” he added.

Meanwhile, in a separate incident in the Sekhukhune District, Limpopo Highway Patrol members patrolling in the Mecklenburg policing area received information about men dealing in dagga in the Dihlabaneng section of Ga-Selala village.

Ngoepe told Review that two men, aged 21 and 24, were apprehended after a search operation at their house revealed they were in possession of dagga.

“A plastic bag containing 192 sachets of dagga and over 1 000 sticks of illicit cigarettes were recovered. They were arrested on the spot,” he explained.

Ngoepe said, during the arrest, a 34-year-old man insulted and threatened the police members.

“He was arrested for interfering in their police duties and for resisting arrest,” he added.

The men are expected to appear before various magistrate’s courts soon, Ngoepe concluded.
