LIMPOPO – Four men, between the ages of 18 and 35, will appear in the Giyani Magistrate’s Court tomorrow, facing charges of contravening the Firearms Control and Immigration acts.

The four were arrested in Giyani yesterday, according to a statement by the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation’s Limpopo Spokesperson, Capt Matimba Maluleke.

“The Hawks’ Serious Organised Crime Investigation Unit received a tip-off about two suspicious vehicles in Giyani CBD and it was followed up,” he said.

The Hawks and members of the Mopani District Crime Prevention Unit, Giyani Local Criminal Record Centre, Highway Patrol, as well as Giyani Crime Prevention members searched for the vehicles.

“Upon searching the vehicles, a 9mm firearm, with its serial number filed off, and ammunition were found and seized. Preliminary investigation established that the four suspects are undocumented foreign nationals,” Maluleke added.

The firearm will be taken for ballistic testing to ascertain its originality, Maluleke concluded.
