[WATCH] It is important that all children are vaccinated, says Health MEC

Following a two-month shortage of childhood illnesses vaccines at public clinics and the Health Department procuring R35 million worth of vaccines, the department, earlier today hosted an immunization and child health catch-up drive at the Seshego Zone 4 Clinic.

POLOKWANE – The drive was facilitated by the MEC of Health, Dr Phophi Ramathuba, where children who had missed a vaccine as a result of the shortage were afforded an opportunity to be vaccinated by the MEC and staff on call for the day.

“For the past four months, our clinics and hospitals suffered a severe shortage of childhood immunization vaccines. We were able to procure the vaccines and they have been delivered to all our clinics where all mothers will now be able to have their children vaccinated from children’s illnesses such as polio, measles and the many others. Vaccines are very important, especially in the first year of a child,” she explained.

The MEC went on to say that the drive will run throughout the year to ensure that every child gets vaccinated.

She pleaded with hospital and clinic managers to communicate with the department when they meet challenges such as running out of medication and other medical supplies needed to ensure that patients are attended to and assisted.
