Mom pleads for assistance after her home collapses

Single mother, Azwifaneli Netshiluvhi (40) says she no longer has a safe haven for her and her children.

LIMPOPO – Life has been a nightmare for a single mother of three from Mbaleni village near Makwarela township.

Azwifaneli Netshiluvhi (40) says she and her family have been struggling after the area experienced tremendous rain in the aftermath of the tropical cyclone, Eloise.

Netshiluvhi, who works as a domestic worker, said she and her children, Khathutshelo Tshisikule (20), Livhuwani (13) and Mulamuleli (12), are lucky to be alive after their two-roomed house collapsed last Sunday morning.

Now, they have nowhere to go with the little they have left, she said.

“My 12-year-old was injured when this happened. She was injured by falling bricks and had to be taken to Makwarela Clinic for treatment. My 13-year-old managed to escape through the window, and thankfully, was unharmed,” explained Netshiluvhi.

She is pleading with the Thulamela Municipality to assist her, as she no longer has a safe haven for her and her children, she said.

The traditional leader of Mbaleni, Chief Thithomelwi Mphaphuli said he had informed the local ward representative who informed the ward councillor to assess the damage caused to Netshiluvhi’s house.

He is appealing to the district municipality to do something for the single mother and her children.

The Spokesperson for the Vhembe District Municipality, Matodzi Ralushai said the municipality’s Disaster Management Unit has prioritised the matter.
