Dr Nkhumeleni puts a smile on Limpopo residents’ faces

Through Dr Solly Nkhumeleni's contribution to the Miss and Mrs Township South Africa beauty pageant, Limpopo residents benefitted in various ways.

LIMPOPO – The Miss and Mrs Township South Africa is a beauty pageant and empowerment programme that was established in December 2019 by former Mrs South Africa finalist, Koketso Makua.

DNI Orthodontist, situated at 37A Grobler St in Polokwane, is a platinum sponsor of the pageant and thanks to Dr Solly Nkhumeleni’s contribution, the province has benefitted in many ways.

“Through his contribution to the Miss and Mrs Township South Africa in 2020 and also Miss and Mrs Township Teen, 600 sanitary towels were distributed between Polokwane, Lebowakgomo, Modimolle and Tzaneen. We were able to implement the Little Girl Arise by Koketso Makua Programme in over five high schools. The programme focuses on tackling issues that affect teenage girls and also helps them develop a healthy self-esteem,” said Makua.

She added that five women from Limpopo went through a five-month women empowerment programme, of which two received entrepreneurial training.

“Dr Nkhumeleni also helped mobilise Limpopo businesses to donate 30 boxes of essential items for orphaned kids. We were able to reach other prospective contestants to undergo this empowerment programme, and our aim is to have a much wider reach.”

Makua said part of their objectives for this year is to set up reading corners at primary schools nationwide, including Limpopo.

“Our roadshow, which was held on 30 January, saw Limpopo represented at the briefing session. With the ease of restrictions, we look forward to hosting a meet with one of our Top 5 nominated contestants; Ntjeziro Mosima who is based in Limpopo,” she added.

Makua said it is at the core of their foundation to tackle issues pertaining to women at grassroot levels, and that the province is a field they wish to explore.

“Through their contribution, DNI has brought light into us working towards the realisation of this objective. Thank you, Dr Nkhumeleni, for your continuous support. Together we aim to keep changing lives,” she concluded.
