Patel back in court for his mother’s murder in August

Double murder accused, Rameez Patel is out on bail on condition he stays within the Limpopo borders.

POLOKWANE – Rameez Patel, who stands accused of murdering his mother, Mahajeen will only be back in court on 16 August.

His mother was murdered in her Nirvana home on 19 September 2017, a year after his father was murdered in a drive-by shooting.

Patel, who stands accused of murdering his wife, Fatima at their home in Nirvana in 2015, was arrested nine days later and charged with the murder of his mother. Patel was granted bail of R5 000 in August after his lawyers argued that his businesses are going to ground, the fear of him contracting Covid-19 in jail and that he wants to care for his children.

The bail conditions include that he should stay within the Limpopo borders. A plea to change the bail conditions to allow him to visit his children was rejected last year. Patel, in a short interview at the Limpopo High Court on Monday, has indicated that he wants to visit his children, whom he has last seen four years ago. He said he has not given up hope.
