POLOKWANE – Motorists in the city are advised to avoid low-lying bridges, due to flooding.

An earlier thunderstorm brought heavy rain and strong winds which led to flooding in parts of the city. The Department of Transport and Community Safety has since warned of flooding at the low-lying bridges in Bok and Paul Kruger streets. Motorists are advised to use alternative routes until the flooding waters subside.

Meanwhile the storm has also resulted in disruptions to electricity supply. In a statement the Polokwane Municipality announced that the municipal call centre has received numerous complaints. “Our teams are working on attending to each customer complaint in a timeous manner.”

The South African Weather Service yesterday issued an orange (Level 4) warning for disruptive rain for the city. They warned of heavy rain which can lead to localised flooding and warned residents to avoid crossing flooding waters that are ankle deep.
