Man (29) to appear in court for allegedly defrauding vehicle dealership in Polokwane

The man reportedly used fraudulent documents to secure finance for a vehicle valued at R450 000.

A 31-year-old man who allegedly defrauded a vehicle dealership is expected to appear in the Polokwane Magistrate’s Court on Monday. The man faces charges of fraud, forgery and uttering after he allegedly used fraudulent documents to apply for vehicle finance at a dealership in the city.

Hawks Spokesperson, Capt Matimba Maluleke said at the time the vehicle finance was successfully approved and the accused received the vehicle in Mpumalanga.

“The bank only became suspicious when he failed to pay his first installment and launched an investigation. It was later discovered that the documents that he had submitted when he applied for the vehicle finance were fraudulent and the matter was referred to the Hawks.”

The said transaction took place on 27 November 2019 and the vehicle was valued at R450 000. The man was traced to him home in Mpumalanga and was arrested by the Hawks Serious Commercial Crime Investigating on Friday, 29 January.
