[INFOGRAPHIC] Limpopo dam levels rise as Eloise brings much needed rain

The latest weekly Status of Dams report issued by the Department of Water and Sanitation indicates that provincial water storage rose a substantial 4.4% from last week. See the dam levels as recorded on Monday, 25 January, here:  

LIMPOPO – According to the weekly Status of Dams report issued by the Department of Water and Sanitation, provincial water storage stands at 64.7%. This is a substantial rise of 4.4% from last week’s 60.3%.

Tropical storm Eloise, which made landfall in Limpopo over the weekend, brought with her extreme rainfall in the northern parts of the province and along the escarpment. As a result, most dams in the province have recorded a substantial increase in their levels, more so in the Mopani and Vhembe districts.

Ebenezer has shown an increase and now stands at 38.3.% from last week’s 26.2%. Same period last year it at 22.3%.

The Tzaneen dam is at 33.5% and Modjadji is higher at 28.46% an increase from last week’s 11.6%.

Flag Boshielo Dam, which located in Olifants River which is part of Polokwane Water Supply System, however recorded a slight drop from 81.1% last week, to 80.2%. Same period last year it was over 100% at 104.7%.

Limpopo is currently in the rainy season and residents are warned to stay away from water-locked areas.
